Real Estate Pictures: Prepare for Your Shoot

Follow this quick checklist to prep your home for a next-level photoshoot that delivers stunning shots and sells your home faster.

What to remember

This should be the most exciting moment of your home selling process. Well, aside from your sale. You’ve done the necessary repairs, restorations, and prep work — and now it’s time to show off all that hard work and effort to prospective buyers.

Because you and your photographer are partners, it’s your responsibility to ensure your home looks good enough to sell. And it’s their responsibility to capture your home in all its glory. In order to achieve the results you want, there are a few things every homeowner or seller should do before the photographer arrives for the shoot.

Show off that curb appeal

Park all vehicles away from the property. Mow the lawn. Move the trash. You want your driveway, lawn, and curb clear of any vehicles, debris, or objects to ensure your home’s curb appeal is captured in full.

Light up the space

Turn on all your lights to spotlight your home’s interior. Check your light bulbs prior to the

shoot and replace them if necessary. You’ll also want to turn off any ceiling or floor fans.

Go to your room — and clean it

Make the beds, store the toys, organize the clutter, and shut the closets. You want your

bedrooms to look picture perfect.

Tidy the bathroom

Are there towels in sight? Clean and fold them neatly. Do you store your toothbrushes on the

counter? Hide them in the cabinet. Soap, lotion, and bottles should also be stored away and out of sight, too.

Clear the kitchen

That means the outside of your fridge, too. As much as you love those magnets from the Grand

Canyon, they’ve gotta go — along with the calendars, crumbs, and chore chart. There shouldn’t be a dish or spatula in sight.

Prep the patio

Get your patio, deck, and/or backyard photo-ready by arranging patio furniture and fixtures

neatly. Tend to gardens and put any debris, trash cans, or objects away.

Care for the fuzzy family members

Crate your pets or make arrangements for them to remain off the property during the shoot so

they stay safe and out of the way.
